A 53-year-old Filipino tourist died after losing consciousness while riding the Frozen Ever After attraction at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort on Friday, August 29, 2025, according to multiple reports.
The man slipped into a coma around 10:00 a.m. local time while on the slow-moving boat ride with his wife. She immediately alerted park staff when she discovered her husband had fallen unconscious during the attraction, which is part of the park’s World of Frozen themed land.
Cast members quickly arranged for a first-aider to check on the man and perform CPR as the boat was preparing to dock. Emergency personnel responded to the scene, with police receiving the initial report at 10:18 a.m.
The tourist was promptly transported by ambulance to North Lantau Hospital, located on the same island as the theme park near Hong Kong’s international airport. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at 11:30 a.m., less than two hours after the initial incident.
The man’s wife informed emergency personnel and police that her husband suffered from hypertension and other heart-related issues. According to reports, he had a decade-long history of heart disease and high blood pressure, conditions that required regular medication and medical follow-up visits.
Hong Kong Disneyland Resort issued a statement following the incident, with a spokesperson noting that “our initial investigation has shown the incident is not related to ride safety.” The resort emphasized that the guest’s death was not connected to any mechanical or operational issues with the attraction.
Park officials expressed their condolences and indicated they would provide necessary assistance to the deceased man’s family. The resort deeply regretted the passing of the guest and committed to supporting his relatives during this difficult time.
The Philippine Consulate-General in Hong Kong confirmed the incident and stated it was coordinating with local authorities to help the family repatriate the man’s body. The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs indicated the consulate would continue working with relevant local institutions while respecting the family’s privacy.
The World of Frozen area, opened in November 2023, represents a significant expansion for Hong Kong Disneyland, featuring multiple attractions and experiences based on the popular animated film series, Frozen. The Frozen Ever After ride is a slow-moving boat ride that takes guests through various live scenes from the movie and has no age limit or height restrictions. Pregnant women are advised against riding the attraction.
Following the incident, Hong Kong Disneyland’s website posted an update indicating the Frozen Ever After attraction would be temporarily suspended due to operational adjustments from Sunday, August 31 through September 19. Park officials clarified that this maintenance closure had been planned prior to the man’s death.
Medical emergencies at Disney theme parks worldwide are relatively rare occurrences. When they do happen, park staff are trained to respond quickly with first aid measures and coordinate with local emergency medical services for immediate transport to nearby hospitals.
Hong Kong Disneyland Resort has not released additional details about the specific circumstances surrounding the medical emergency or provided updates on any potential changes to safety protocols. The park continues to operate its other attractions while the Frozen Ever After ride remains temporarily closed for the scheduled maintenance period.
